Swing Machine

A simple machine made of string, ink/pen, a bottle and wooden poles, this is a pendulum inspired machine. Just swing and let the machine draw. Unfortunately there was a design flaw and the swing only marked a small area on the paper. An interesting mark maker all the same.

Jester drawing around college

For the last two weeks iv been sitting in the corridor/hall/canteen/studio and attempting to capture the movement of people around me using jester drawing.  Its difficult to do because ur trying to capture what they are doing rather than what pose they take. It has to feel as though they are moving... its not easy to do. Here is an edited down version of some of my jester work.

Must have been feeling a bit abstract on this day.

Trying to capture the energetic discussion going on.

 Taking a break and relaxing.

Jester drawing in lectures.

Roller Machines

Another 'Machine' i designed whereby you roll it away and let it leave behind a trail of ink. Using an old loo roll and some string i created a raised pattern, rolling 'machine'.  You simply ink it up an roll it away. it leave behind it the trace of its movement. Its simple and doesn't produce the best results but its all fits with my concept and its fun to turn inventions into reality. Mainly because they don't always work. So its always a good feeling when the design works out.

The second roller is the same basic idea except instead of waves i used the string to spell the word movement.
